GAA and U of Penn Blood Drive Greyhound Angels Adoption and University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital have been working together to collect blood for any dog in need. Most greyhounds are universal blood donors and due to their GREYT temperament make excellent donors. We need some more adopted greyhounds to keep this program going. Help your greyhound to help other dogs that just won't make it without them... Donor Eligibility: - The donor greyhound must have a good temperament and be a willing participant. - The donor greyhound must be between 55 and 150 pounds at the time of donation. - The donor greyhound must be between one and six years of age. - The donor greyhound must be in excellent health. - The donor greyhound must have blood that is type DEA 1.1 negative. A simple blood test will be preformed on site prior to the donation. This is an ongoing event at the Greyhound Angels Adoption Kennel. U of Penn will be here with their state of the art Blood Mobile. A lot of our greyhound participants have aged out of the program. Please help us to keep this very needed program going. If you have any questions or would like to sign up for the program, please contact Vera at wildears@verizon.net. Want To Help Want to help Greyhound Angels Adoption continue their mission? Here is your chance!! You can send your financial donation through Paypal. Simply click on the donation button below and enter your financial donation. We exist only with your help. Remember your donation is tax deductable! On behalf of the greyhounds waiting for their forever homes, THANK YOU for your support!! Are You Thinking About Adopting A Greyhound? Greyhound Friends of Augusta (Georgia) posted a link from their site to a song called "The Race" by Matt Dahan. Matt wrote the song for his family's two adopted greyhounds. After listening to the song, group volunteer, Alan Jackson purchased it, wrote out the lyrics, timed the song and scoured the internet looking for appropriate photos to make a slideshow video. After viewing the video, Matt gave Alan permission to use it to promote greyhound adoption. The original video may be viewed on YouTube. Please remember that adopting a retired racing greyhound is a life long commitment and your decision should not be taken lightly. We recommend that you read "Retired Racing Greyhounds For Dummies" by Lee Livingood. Come out to the kennel and talk to some of our volunteers. Call us with your questions, (856) 292-8780. Even if you adopt from another agency, try to get as many opinions and facts before you make the commitment. Greyhounds are pack animals and they bond very quickly with their new pack, your family. To adopt a greyhound and return them would break their heart and spirit, after all you have rejected them. You can now fill out your application and submit it on-line. Go to the bottom of the "Adoption" page or the top of the "Adopt Me" page to submit your application on-line. Or print out our application at the bottom of the "Adopt Me" page. Why are you lurking on the computer? Don't be afraid, come on out to the kennel and see the greyhounds for yourself. Are you afraid to fall in love? Please Note: The Kennel will be closed on Wednesdays. Hound Spotlight Miles is a four year old white and brindle male. He is registered with the National Greyhound Association and trained to race, however henever officially competed at a track. He has tested other large breed friendly, but he is not cat or small animal safe. Miles has been in two previous placements and has experienced the same type of behavior in both. He likes to be in charge. He can become territorial about furniture and where he wants to lie down. We believe that Miles needs another dog in the home, not necessarily a greyhound, to give him some pack order. He also needs an experienced dog owner who will become his alpha and not give him the room to take over. Due to his territorial issues, we will not place him in a home with children. Miles likes to get attention and he is very affectionate. He knows how to sit and lie down for his treat. He likes to go for walks and he walks nicely on a leash. Miles would do best with an adopter who will take him to obedience classes. Planning Your Holiday or Summer Vacation? Don't Forget The Furkids!! Let Greyhound Angels Adoption watch your furkids for you. We provide boarding and grooming for all greyhounds and their other breed friends. We offer your furkids a climate controlled (air conditioned and heated), fully licensed facility. We also provide around the clock staffing for their safety and your piece of mind!! All furkids that board with us will be able to play the day away in our indoor playroom complete with toys, beds, and blankets. All playtime is supervised so that your greyhounds and their other breed friends are safe. It will be their vacation while you are on vacation. We do not charge extra for medication administration, to feed your dog a special diet, playtime, or to show them plenty of love and attention. Any greyhound staying seven nights will get a free spa day before they go home. They will receive a free oatmeal medicated bath, nail clipping, and ear cleaning. Maybe your greyhound will find a friend to take home with them. We provide a pick your friend service. If you are looking for another greyhound, we will help your greyhound find a friend while they stay here. By the time they go home together, they are already buddies. Space is limited for boarding so that we may provide our vacationing greyhounds with plenty of attention and love. Please call the kennel at (856) 292-8780 to make your reservations. We also provide Spa Day Services for greyhounds. You can call to make your appointment or just stop in with your greyhound.
